I reached out to Missy about possibly giving my little curly girl her first haircut and educating me on how to take care of her beautiful hair. Missy got back to me quickly and said she was able to schedule an appointment for her and explained what would be best for us. My little girl is three and it was time for a little shape up. We came in that morning and Missy introduced herself and offered us beverages while we waited. She then came over, talked to me about about my concerns with my daughters hair and checked our current products weve been using. Missy was so sweet and sooo very patient with her. She offered us so much grace and joy during our appointment. We left with her curls bouncing, some better suited hair products, and I felt so much more confident in how to take care of her hair at home. She even snapped some pictures Ill treasure forever. It has been a few weeks now and weve gotten a good routine down at home and shes gotten so many compliments on her hair. I cannot recommend Missy enough. My daughter was asking for a week straight when we would be visiting again. I know shell be excited to see her again!! Thank you, Missy, for making her first hair appointment something to remember.

Yes, this is a guy. Missy talked with me for the first part of the appointment and we covered a lot of my questions. Although I felt a little odd bringing in my products, it was smart to do because Missy understands what each ingredient in a hair product does. She understands my hair type and my goals and did a tiny cut on the ends and suggested and used products for my hair. During our discussion, she made an excellent suggestion on my hair color. I left understanding how I can style my hair at home (important). And I plan to go back. And I recommend Missy to any guy or gal what wants expert help on your curly/long hair journey. This was my first time ever getting my hair evaluated, cut and styled by an individual who was knowledgeable about cutting curly hair. Missy was very knowledgeable on all we discussed and really took the time to make me feel comfortable and informed throughout the process. She gave me little tips and tricks that I didn’t know prior to the appointment, that will make taking care of my curly hair so much easier going forward. Missy brought my curls back to life! This was my first time ever at a salon getting my haircut. I was nervous but as soon as I walked in Missy made me feel so comfortable. She was so reassuring when I explained to her how much my hair has been thinning and she let me know it would be okay and that she could bring some volume back to my hair to make it look fuller and healthier and she did just that. I love how she educated me on how to care for my curls and what to look out for in the products I use. I will 100% be returning whenever I need a trim.

I had my first and long awaited appointment with Missy yesterday and am beyond thrilled. She really took the time to discuss with and listen to me about what my goals were and did exactly what was necessary to meet my needs. She also thoroughly explained the process from the dry cut, clarification, repair mask, products/what and how to use, and drying/styling so I will be able to use the same routine at home. Best of all, I found out that I didnt need most of the products I had purchased prior to my appointment which will save me money going forward. She also offers a la carte services to meet everyones time and budget needs. I will be a permanent client going forward. Having curly hair can be overwhelming with all of the advice from other curly girls and online. If youre in the same boat I was, do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment with Missy. If you have any type of curl pattern to your hair, you NEED to go see Missy! She is a curly hair magician! If I could give more that 5 stars, I would.I adore my curly hair and am very selective about what stylist touches it, so I followed Missy on Instagram for close to a year before making an appointment. She spent so much time with me chatting about curl history, problems, and goals before ever touching my hair. At each step of the process, she educated me about my specific curl type, texture, density, and porosity, and how that translates to selecting hair products that work in our humid climate. She is also a curly girl that struggled with her curls once upon a time, so she is all about the science behind how products work and spends loads of time researching in order to educate herself so that she can better help her clients. She will never recommend a product that she herself would not use and will also help find products that fit within your budget even if she doesn’t sell them. She is compassionate and funny as hell. Let her be your curl guru. You won’t regret it, I promise.

Yall. I have been searching for over 7 years for someone to help me love my curly hair and I have finally found her. Whether youre at the beginning of your curl journey or familiar with techniques, Missy takes the time to educate you and will go over any product you bring, NO MATTER HOW MANY, to tell you if its good for you and the reasons why it may not be. I know it can be scary going to someone new and the price of the first appointment was not something I took lightly, but you need to be aware that this is not a turn and burn type of salon. You will have her undivided attention during your entire appointment, and that is pretty priceless these days.My haircut came out fabulous, beyond what I ever imagined it could look like, which is really saying something because I have imagination for days. She never pushed any product on her shelves, which was a definite change from the usual salon experience. I truly believe Missy doesnt care what you use, as long as it is CG.I cannot recommend her highly enough. Book an appointment ASAP. You wont regret it.

I took my daughter in to see Missy for her first curly consult. I will say we were so happy from start to finish. There arent a lot of curly specialists in the area that advertise the ability to do 4b coils and so we were nervous but Missy sat with my daughter and established an expectation before sitting her in the chair. 3C CURL GIRL APPROVED!!This had been the most comfortable and educational hair appointment I’ve had in years!I’ve been natural for over 10 years and gone to curl salons all over the country and wow Missy was so knowledgeable, teaching you in an easily understandable way. One of the most important things for me is proper hair care and using the right products with out all those chemicals and you can tell she’s gone above and beyond to educate herself so she can then teach her clients. We had a great talk in the beginning of the appointment and then she got started on my curly cut. I have very big 3C hair and she was not intimidated AT ALL! She made me so comfortable! We talked about the negative ways we’ve been programmed to hate curly hair or feel less than those with straight hair and the trauma that comes with it. My hair looks so good! I’m so happy with my cut and the products she used were light weight, hydrating, and POWERFUL even with this Florida humidity.I Will be back! I am so happy I found Missy! She was extremely knowledgeable on how to care for curly hair and provided me with information on how to care for my specific types of curls. She provides resources on what products are best for your curly hair as well. We spent about 45 minutes just talking about how to care for my curls and she answered every one of my questions. As she was cutting and styling my hair she was explaining how I could style it on my own. It’s hard to find a curly hair specialist and I plan on continuing to get my haircut with missy. She knows her curls and cares about her clients!

I have been going to see Missy for about a year. She taught me how to have healthy and frizz free curls in the Florida humidity. My cuts and my colors are always amazing. I have also been bringing both of my curly haired daughters and she works wonders on their cuts as well. She educated my 16 yr old on how to take care of her hair and what various ingredients in hair care actually do and which ones are damaging. The best part is she doesn’t tell us we have to use any specific product. My 7 yr old loves going to see her too. Missy never disappoints and she makes the whole experience very fun.

4 years ago Missy changed my curly girl hair life! The first consultation/cut she took her time talking about MY hair, texture, needs. Products that would work etc etc. she took her time to explain and help me with the hair on my head that I had for 40 years and didn’t understand or treat right. Ive been going to Missy for a couple years now and no one has ever made me so happy with my hair. She understands the curly girl experience like no other hairstylist Ive been to. My first appointment with her, I felt like I was heard for the first time. Ive always struggled finding someone who knew how to handle my very thick, curly hair and Ive struggled myself on how to handle it. Missy took the time to explain how to manage/style, what ingredients to look out for in products without pushing expensive products, and kept it simple since I dont like spending too much time styling. I Have extremely thick course curly hair, I have straitened it for years and decided it was time to embrace my Curls and stop fighting it. I went to get my hair cut three weeks ago by a local stylist that supposedly was experienced with the deva technique. I came out with a stacked cut in the back with the front longer then the back I looked very triangular with very heavy sides. I was not sure where she was going with the cut and It looked very unfinished and once again I was disappointed in the cut. I researched online and found Misfit Curls in largo, even though this was over an hour drive for me I was ready to take the leap to hopefully find someone to help me. I found Missy Secore !! I found her very down to earth and experienced with my hair immediately. She knows her stuff and as soon as she saw my hair and the cut she knew exactly how to take care of my problem. She explained all that i need to do for my hair and all about the type and texture and how to style it. She gave me a shape and gave me confidence to stay with my curly hair. I never felt confident in my curls until coming to Missy! She takes her time in your first appointment to help you with products you should use on your hair type and explains everything to you each step of the way. Each cut after the first has been great too! You can customize it based on your budget and needs. After the cut, she always says to let her know if you are unhappy after you style it yourself and she’ll fix it (which has never happened because she’s always on it). Missy is absolutely amazing. Like many curly haired people, I have had nothing but bad experiences at salons. As a result of a particularly bad one, I havent gotten my hair cut in over a year. I have been really nervous about getting another cut but I found Misfit Curls website and liked her in depth descriptions and expertise. But let me tell you, nothing could have prepared me for how positive my experience would be. Not only did she completely fix and style my hair, but she also gave me really good advice and directions for upkeep. I have never had a better visit to a salon! Visiting Missy was more than just a haircut. It was a learning experience. I went in thinking I had medium to coarse hair and was using products meant to add moisture to my strands. To my surprise, I had a completely different hair type than what I believed and had been using the wrong products! She taught me not only about my hair type but, what type of products to use in our humid Florida weather. I left with not only a fresh cut that revived my hair but also knowledge that has kept my hair looking just as good as when I left her shop! Every curly girl has their own journey. After 40+ years of ups and downs, loves & hates, the good, the bad and definitely the ugly, I can honestly say I have never met anyone who took the time to listen and then educate me the way Missy did! Her initial appointment is two hours long and she does a deep dive into your past, your present and your future curly lifestyle, including products, techniques (good and bad), and how to simplify your life and not be held hostage to your routine anymore! What she didn’t do is try to push her products on me but instead explained the science behind why some products work and others don’t for certain curl types. Cutting your hair dry first then tweaking it after it’s washed and styled is a technique she uses to get to know YOUR hair and curl pattern. When my hair was dry and “uncrunched” my curls sprang up like I haven’t seen in a long time! Missy’s personality is warm and welcoming from the minute you walk through her door and her “let’s sit and chat” approach immediately puts you at ease— she GETS it! This is a long review but in summary I’d say the fact I left there and did NOT put my trusty baseball hat on in the car is a testament to her skills and my experience overall!

Missy was amazing!! She is such a wealth of knowledge for people that have curly hair. I am so glad I finally decided to go to her so I could learn how to properly take care of my curly hair and make it look its best. It hasn’t looked or felt this good in a lot of years. I got my hair done by Missy back in October and at least once a week I think about how she’s change my life and how awesome she is. I’m a mixed woman with unique hair texture and I up till meeting Missy had had nothing but awful hair experiences. Another curly girl friend of mine referred me to her and at first I was very hesitant but once she started explaining Missy‘s process I was very interested. I came to my appointment with ideas and pictures of what I wanted my hair to be like, very nervous but as soon as Missy started talking she began to ease my nerves. It was a very thorough consultation of how I wanted my hair to be and the complications I was having with it. She’s so knowledgeable and so took her time and was able to answer my ever questions so thoroughly. She gave me a amazing education on my hair I’ve wanted all my life. Once in the chair she explained to me what she was doing and why she was doing it and was very conscious of my wishes. I am trying to grow my hair longer and she was able to fix the damage other stylist had done to my layers while retaining my length. I was so happy with my hair and Missy I cried. I’ve never walked out of a stylist feeling beautiful, happy and heard until Missy. I live 8 hours away now but I’ll never go to anyone else. I can’t wait for my next appointment.

Shes informative, realistic, friendly, and she does her best to give you the haircut you want that will suit your curls-- for a fair price! I always had wavy curly unmanageable hair. I usually just flat iron or put it up because it’s hard to make it look good. I went to see Missy today and it was a unique experience, in a good way. My experience with Missy was easily the best Ive ever had! I went in to my appointment with a handful of concerns. I had sustained some chemical damage and my hair was thinning. Prior to my appointment Missy asked me to bring in all the products I was using, and upon arrival she sat with me and we discussed the ingredients in all of them and the effects they have on my strands. She was extremely(!!!) knowledgeable and I left with a better understanding of which things to use when, and which ones I shouldnt use at all. Ive had 3 devacuts in the past from other stylists, and the layers they cut made my already thin hair even more noticeable. Missy explained that a curly cut isnt a one size fits all experience, and thats why shes been trained in so many different curly hair cutting techniques. My appointment with her was for a rezo cut. I told her length retention was my goal, but I understood shed need to cut a lot of damage off. To my surprise I left with my hair only the slightest bit shorter, yet in MUCH better condition. When it was time for her to wash and style my hair she had so many product options for me to try! I chose a line Id never used before and ended up falling in love with it. Missys haircare recommendations did not just help me for the one day I sat in her salon chair but for months afterwards, too. My hair has grown out evenly and the thinning seems to have subsided, but it was thoroughly disguised by the work Missy did. If you are struggling with your curls and need some help, or if your curls are already flawless and youre looking for a stylist to take as good of care of them as you do, I cant recommend Missy enough.

Im so happy that I found Missy! Not being from the Tampa Bay area I was very concerned about finding someone to properly handle my 3c curls. I figured finding a stylist that was DevaCurl certified would be a good place to start. Full transparency, Im leery of both white AND black stylists not knowing how to handle kinky/curly/natural hair. Going through the list of Deva certified stylists, I quickly noticed that none of the stylists had people of color in their portfolio pictures – ASIDE FROM MISSY! I booked immediately.When I arrived at my appointment Missy reviewed all of my hair products with me, and I learned that most of what I was using even though labeled “for curly hair” was not benefiting me in anyway. I’m a dude with very curly hair. It’s been a curse trying to deal with it most of my life. I’ve received advice on my hair from hair stylists my whole life that’s been ok, but nothing has really worked well.So when Missy told me she specialized in curly hair and could help me, I was honestly a bit skeptical. Especially with the price of a new customer visit. She explained the reason for the higher cost (2 hour consultation, cut, wash, and style).I decided I’d try. It had been 6 months since my last cut. I didn’t have much to lose. I’m already spending a mint on hair products and I still get bad tangles and bad frizz.When I tell you that the money spent is worth every penny, I’m not exaggerating. She sat down with me and went through my current routine. She looked over my current products and told me what was helping and what was hurting and why.Then the haircut.... I’ve never had my hair cut dry before. And she used all these clips and cut my hair one curl at a time. It was time consuming, and when she was done I looked down and saw the had barely removed any hair. Evidently not as much needs to be taken when it’s cut properly.Next the wash and style. She took the time to explain to me while washing, the best practices for washing and conditioning, and what parts of my routine I’m doing right and wrong, and why. She showed me the best way to condition and add product to my hair in order to keep frizz down without weighing down my hair and how to keep it looking good for days without tangles.She showed me best practices for brushing and and avoiding breakage and tangles. She really cares about curly hair.I’m used to being told I need to get cut at least once a month. She told me I can go up to 4 months between cuts, but to book sooner if I feel I need to.Bottom line, best experience I’ve ever had getting a haircut. And although the cost is higher than I’m used to paying for a haircut, the fact that I can go longer between cuts and she’s not pressuring me to hurry back in, means I’m spending less over the same time.Highly recommend if you’ve got curly hair.
