    I have been coming to BarrelHouse for 7 years after testing multiple barbers throughout the Tampa area. My hair is very thick, and I prefer more progressive haircuts. The owner, Abel Gonzalez, is by far the most versatile barber I have ever seen work. I have put several friends onto him over the years. Abe is also down-to-earth and chill which makes for easy interaction.

    Iā€™ve been going to Abel for over six years now. No one else in Tampa has ever cut my hair since the first time that I went to him, he is not only precise and gives a clean cut every time, he is always doing things to help his craft & improve. This man right here, battled cancer worked through treatment and only took if I remember correctly, three months off through battling it all.Highly, highly, highly, recommend going to Abel.

    Every time I was with one of my best friends, he would get compliments on his fade and haircut even when I also had a fresh cut. His haircut clearly stood out!I went to see Abe on this friendā€™s recommendation after I got a really bad bald fade from another barber. There was next to nothing left on my head. Abe, like a magician, somehow salvaged my cut and totally turned it around and into something more than perfectā€¦ I still donā€™t know how he did it.This dude and his shop are EXTREMELY professional. They provide the absolute best customer service and unlike lots of barbers Iā€™ve been to (and Iā€™ve been to quite a few) they actually listen to what you want.Iā€™ve had a vision of what I wanted my look to be for years and never was able to achieve it.     Shawn has cut my hair since day 1 of entering Barrelhouse and I immediately recognized his talent so I stuck with him. If you like consistency, someone who listens, understands hair types, has good energy, can multitask, and have good relatable conversations while youre getting an efficient cut, then this is your guy. As my hair line has receded in my mid 20ā€™s, Iā€™ve struggled with my hair thinning and curling. I had to move my part over a little to make up for it and he made it happen. Along the way, he overlooked it one time and I wasnā€™t too happy with my cut but nobody is perfect and you gotta let your barber learn you. I came back and explained what I was unhappy about before and he hasnā€™t missed a beat since. This man does a great job and heā€™s loyal to his clients. If youā€™re looking for a shop that cares, has good music and spirits. This the one.

    Ive been using Abel for 5+ years now, and have never found a barber so consistent and dedicated to his work more than this guy. Great at giving a consistent cut, but will also cater to changes, if I feel like doing so. Interesting conversations, and always on time/ ready on schedule. Heā€™s always been able to fit me in with his scheduling and even opened an hour early for me to make sure my fade was right for my wedding. Five star service!     I travel full time for work and struggle to find a decent barber anywhere. The minute you sit in someones chair, you know if hair is a CAREER or a PASSION for them. Abe is truly dedicated to the craft and has a passion for Barbering! I knew my previous cut wasnt great, but he took the time to explain what all was wrong with it, the best way to fix it and loved answering questions.     I went online searching for the best barbers in Tampa after deciding to cut my hair after at least 8 months of growth. Went to BarrelHouse as a walk in and was treated like part of the fam instantly, drinks offered and conversations going. I was super unsure of what I wanted with my haircut so Abe walked me through and broke some stuff down for me until I decided. I left the shop with a very clean cut. After I got home, I realized I didnt like the cut because I decided to keep too much hair on top. I booked an appointment for 7am the next day with Abe and explained the situation. Not only did this man give me a super fresh haircut, he also didnt charge me for the second haircut, and brewed us some coffee before I left for work. Real genuine guy and treats everyone with hospitality and respect. Cant wait for my next cut. If youre looking for the best barber in Tampa, look no further

    Ive been going to Abel for the last 3 years and will not go to anyone else. He is a perfectionist and takes pride in getting it just how you want it. He will even follow you on facebook to see how your hair grows out so he can improve the next time. Aside from the great haircuts the barbershop itself is unique in that there is a Super Nintendo to play while you wait, drinks available, and good music playing. This place is top notch.

    My experience was awesome! I googled nearest barbershop and a plethora of shops popped up but, most were closed on Mondays. Barrel house however was not. Being a walk-in customer I did not know what to expect all I knew is I wanted a good haircut. When I walked in the owner or manager was very welcoming and accommodating.     This review is long overdue. Mea culpa, my friend! Abel Gonzales is the best barber in Tampa. I know everybody says that about everything, so hear me out.Iā€™ve been getting cuts from Abel since 2017 when he was in Ybor. I used to hate haircuts, just took the Wahl clippers to it and called it a day. Most haircuts I got hardly looked better. But Abel is outstanding, properly trained, and he listens and dials it in with you, so you always feel good paying for a cut.It isnā€™t just the quality of the cut, though, but his generous spirit. That generous and easy-going hospitality is essential for a true barber, and Abel has it all. Iā€™m the pastor of two local Lutheran congregations, St Paul Lutheran and Faith Lutheran, and we have regular food pantries called Kinship Markets (in partnership with Jon Dengler of WellBuilt Bikes in the University Mall). Several times Abel came to our Kinship Markets to offer free haircuts to folks in hard times, many of whom are living on the streets and badly needed this gift of dignity.So, Abel is a true neighborhood barber. When you get a cut here, youā€™ll leave looking good and feeling good because youā€™re supporting a local business that gives back to its community.     Abel has been cutting my hair for a while now and he always does a phenomenal job. He takes his time and pays attention to the details my previous barbers were inconsistent on.     Honest Abe woke up early when I called him and explained I was in town from California and had to get a cut before an event at 8:30 am. He woke up and came in early. Not only that, it was a cut tailored to exactly what I needed and he even cleaned up my beard and eye brows and gave a great cut. After that, he knew my Uber account was giving me issues and I was running late so he drove me himself to the event. Thatā€™s right, he left his work and took me himself. This is a fully devoted barber who goes above and beyond and has mastered his craft in hair and also customer service. I will be coming back next time Iā€™m in town. Some of the highest quality fades in Tampa and Abe was the first barber that really took the time to explain the difference between certain styles of cuts and he made sure you got EXACTLY what you wanted.

    Ive been to many different barber shop because I am so picky about my hair. Whenever I do find one thats halfway decent, it takes me a few months before the barber can actually figure out what I want, and when he/she does, the cut still falls short of satisfying my expectations.I found this barber shop online and figured I would give it a try. Booked an appointment with Shawn, told him what I wanted and he nailed it, first time. I was surprised to have my expectations exceeded on the first visit.     I decided to take my husband and his BFF here based on their reviews, and I was not disappointed. It felt like we were just hanging out with friends. Abel & Shawn were a hilarious show I got to watch while the guys were pampered. I even got to play old school Super Mario Bros on the big screen while I waited. They offered us beers/drinks when we walked in, at no charge. I annoyed them with questions about how to help keep my husbands hair & beard nice at home, and they answered every single one, along with tips I never wouldve known. Even as we were leaving, Shawn gave us a free bottle of their beard oil for my husbands birthday. We will definitely be taking the 30 minute drive back to Barrelhouse every time he needs a cut.
